Training

Haringey Virtual School works with schools and governors, social workers, foster carers and health colleagues to develop knowledge, share good practice and promote the educational attainment of children in care.

An extensive training programme is delivered centrally, with some bespoke training offered to individual schools. Much of the training is suitable for a multi-agency audience, while some is specific to schools.

The Virtual School training programme includes courses which support the integration of the most recent brain research around attachment and trauma into school and social care practice. The ‘How to BE’ tool, including the ‘Emotionally Friendly Classroom and Home’ was developed in Haringey to support this work and is central to much of the training. It promotes a relational approach to support recovery and provide a structure to promote self-regulation for thinking and learning.

Kate Cairns Associates (external link) is a training provider with a high level of knowledge in this area. Haringey Virtual School is continuing to develop work with Kate Cairns, in terms of developing and understanding practice in recovering from trauma.
