Plans unveiled to refurbish two council buildings
More than £10million of investment is set to transform two council offices in Wood Green so that staff can continue to deliver high quality services to residents across the borough.
Alexandra House and 48 Station Road will undergo major refurbishment after Cabinet gave the green light last night (9 November) for the improvements.
The upgrade will see a much needed re-fit and interior decoration of both buildings to bring them up to modern standards.
The strategy will offer flexibility for council staff to work from home and in the office, reflecting changing practices during the pandemic.
To support this ‘hybrid’ working model, the existing layout, IT infrastructure and audio-visual equipment will be updated.
As part of council efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, active travel to work and around the borough will be encouraged with improvements to cycle storage and showering facilities.
Plans to create a multi-purpose hub at the Civic Centre, currently closed due to serious safety and structural issues, includes the provision of staff offices.
Undertaking the improvement of Alexandra House and 48 Station Road will benefit future uses of the buildings.
Cllr Peray Ahmet, the Leader of Haringey Council, said:
Currently, both buildings are in desperate need of refurbishment and unsuited to the flexible ways of working that served us so well during the pandemic.
The upgrade will enable staff to continue the phenomenal work they are doing to get us through this crisis and beyond in safe and modern offices that support a collaborative approach to delivering services.
This investment will not only support our staff, but also extends the life of the buildings and increases their value as assets.
