Joint statement on the publication of the Casey Review on the Metropolitan Police
Leader of Haringey Council Cllr Peray Ahmet and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Jobs and Community Cohesion Cllr Adam Jogee, have issued the following joint statement following the publication today of Baroness Casey’s Review of the Metropolitan Police Service:
“Today’s report is a damning indictment of a police service which has failed to live up to the standards we expect of an institution with such an important role. It is intolerable that so many of our residents do not and cannot trust the police, who should be there to protect them. Haringey and the rest of the capital deserves so much more than a police service which is institutionally racist, sexist and homophobic.
“As a council we are committed to building a borough where everyone feels safe and secure. To achieve this, we need a police service which we and our residents can be confident to work with, to share information with and to trust. It is clear that fundamental change is needed if this is to be a reality.
“We fully recognise and support the conclusions of this report and call on those in power to implement its recommendations in full.
