Listening to you

Over 40 people came along to Saturday's open day in Finsbury Park to look at our ideas for improving 5-a-side football facilities in the borough. Staff were on hand to answer questions and listen to the concerns of local residents and users of the park. Thank you to everyone who came along and took part.

Forty-one questionnaires were completed on the day; these will be added to all those we received during the consultation period which ended on 17 July.

Nine people hopped into the back of CabCam to record their views on camera. We're committed to helping people have their say and wanted to try CabCam to see whether or not it encouraged people to do that. The footage that appears here has been edited (from the 30 minutes of footage) to create a short 10 minute video. We've tried hard to ensure that comments represent all the issues raised, without duplication, and that we've not taken them out of context or misrepresented support or opposition to our ideas.

However, if you're shown in the film and do feel that we have misrepresented you in any way please contact us immediately and we'll remove the footage.

The purpose of this consultation was to consult on

  • the proposal of developing of a 5-a-side football centre within Finsbury Park
  • the possible look and feel of the development
  • and to seek ideas on what to spend any development money on (if this is possible from the building of the proposed centre).

The project proposes using the tarmac area near the Hornsey Gate Entrance on Endymion Road in Finsbury Park to build a 5-a-side football centre to meet the huge demand for quality football facilities in the area, with the aim of increasing the level of participation in sport and contributing to improving the overall health and well-being of residents.

It is anticipated that the area might accommodate a football centre with

  • ten 5-a-side third generation type pitches for football and multi sport use
  • a small pavilion (with changing rooms, toilets, reception, office, meeting room, bar/social area) for users of the pitches
  • additional parking and cycle racks which will also all fit on the tarmac area.

To view the plans see the attached files section below.

Currently the area is used for various activities. It is anticipated that these users could be accommodated elsewhere within the park, for example on the tarmac area adjacent to the tennis courts and skateboard area, without the need to convert any other existing grass area to tarmac.

Subject to the consultation process and planning permission, the Council will advertise to seek a suitable partner to take this project forward, and would expect substantial access for community use of the centre at off peak times, as well as receiving some form of financial payment for reinvestment in the park.
