Our financial inclusion team has a new name and focus. The new housing income maximisation team (HIMAX), helps tenants in Haringey council homes maximise their income by providing advice on:
- benefits
- financial support
- assistance with claims
The HIMAX team focuses on ensuring that people receive the maximum benefits they are entitled to, which can significantly improve their financial situation.
Key areas of activity
The HIMAX team can help tenants with the following:
- benefits advice: provide guidance on what benefits individuals may qualify for, including Universal Credit, Jobseeker's Allowance, and other financial supports
- new tenancy sign-ups: providing early intervention and support with money advice to new tenants, to ensure a stable start to their tenancy
- triaging new Universal Credit (UC) claimants: providing support for tenants navigating the complexities of Universal Credit, especially during the initial claim process
- targeted support for high arrears cases: helping tenants with rent arrears over £1,000 who are experiencing complex benefit issues, offering tailored assistance to reduce or clear the arrears
- claim assistance: help tenants navigate the claims process, ensuring that applications are filled out correctly and submitted on time. This includes support for challenging decisions and appealing if necessary
- applications for alternative payments: supporting tenants in accessing payment options that promote rent stability and financial control
- money management workshops: facilitating practical sessions to build tenants’ financial literacy and budgeting skills
