Laced with Pride
The past year has seen Tottenham Hotspur busy with a range of LGBT+ activities. Here, we recap on the great work they have done.
This season Spurs partnered with LGBT+ charity Stonewall to promote its Rainbow Laces campaign – supporting the LGBT+ community through sport and fighting homophobia within football.
Spurs swapped white and navy for multi-colours, as the team captains got rainbow armbands and the club’s social media accounts were updated with rainbow colours.
The Wembley arch was also illuminated in rainbow lighting with rainbow branding around the stadium for the Men’s game against Southampton on 5 December.
Spurs also have one of the first LGBT+ supporters’ groups – the Proud Lilywhites, and between them they have achieved a first in British football by recruiting a dedicated LGBT+ Officer.
The Proud Lilywhites are one of the nation’s most active LGBT+ fan groups - we chatted to them last LGBT History Month about their focus on equality in football. Read the interview.
