Young carers
Young carers are children and young people who, for example, care for an adult, a sick or disabled parent or sibling.
This means they have serious caring responsibilities at home. They may be doing housework, cooking and shopping for the family and need to bathe siblings or parents. They also may need to attend school, perhaps with a lack of understanding from school-mates.
If this describes a young person you know who is aged between 5 and 18, they should contact the Haringey Young Carers project (contact details below).
The project offers:
- someone to listen
- advice and support
- the chance to meet other young carers
- trips and activities
- people who are trained to act on behalf of the young carer
- help with money
- guidance on what to do in an emergency
- information about how to cope with illness and disability
- the opportunity to discuss needs and support
To find out more, please contact 07971 308 891 - 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
A monthly drop-in service will be available from 1 March 2013 at:
- Bruce Grove Youth Centre
10 Bruce Grove
London
