Major housing works

The five-year  Asset Management Strategy (2020-25) (PDF, 212KB) has agreed funding of nearly £360m to deliver improvements to council homes and estate environments.

This funding will enable us to deliver more ‘holistic’ investment programmes while bringing all homes up to the Decent Homes Standard by March 2025. Importantly, the strategy sets out the programmes and activities that will be funded to ensure the safety of all residents living in our homes.

The strategy also sets out significant investment plans for improving the energy efficiency of council homes which will not only help reduce energy bills, but also support carbon reduction in the borough in line with the council’s aim to be net-zero carbon by 2027.

As part of the implementation of the strategy, we are working on new standards for enhancing resident engagement in the delivery of the capital programme. This will include opportunities for involvement in:

  • the procurement of major works contracts
  • the design and specification of works
  • the review of contractor performance on completion of works.

We developed the key priorities and objectives of the new strategy working with a group of residents. These priorities and objectives are designed to improve the quality of housing and overall resident satisfaction with their homes and living environment.
