Data protection legislation generally prevents the council from disclosing personal data to ‘third parties’ – separate organisations or individuals that are not covered by existing data sharing arrangements.
However, data protection legislation provides exemptions which permit personal data to be disclosed in some circumstances, for example for crime prevention purposes. Requests for disclosure must be made to the council’s Information Governance team on the form below explaining the basis for the disclosure and clearly setting out the information requested. Once you submit the form, we will assess whether there is a lawful basis to disclose the information. If we do not hold the information or your request is refused, we will let you know.
There is no statutory requirement or time limit for us to respond to disclosure requests, but we will aim to respond within 1 month.
