Get involved - Other Local Heritage Groups

The Friends of Bruce Castle

Founded in 1995, the Friends of Bruce Castle (FoBC) is the support group for Bruce Castle Museum, Haringey Archive and Bruce Castle Park. The Friends are an invaluable help to the Museum and Archive Service. Over the past 20 years the Friends have actively supported through volunteering at events, raising funds to make educational and learning activities possible at Bruce Castle, as well as providing financial assistance to buy important historical acquisitions for the archive and museum collections.

Notable projects in partnership with Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive include the conservation of the 1686 painting of Bruce Castle by Wolridge, the acquisition of photographs of Nelson Mandela visiting Muswell Hill and the preservation of 18th century samplers and textiles. The Family Activities programme each Sunday and during the school holidays and the Little Explorers' monthly workshops, would not be possible without the Friends' support and volunteer help. The Museum's evening and lunchtime talks programme is also run in partnership with the Friends.

To find out more about how you can support your local museum and archive at Bruce Castle and get involved by being a Friend, see the Friends of Bruce Castle website (external link). The Friends also have their own Facebook page (external link).

To contact the Friends directly, email: fobc@friendsofbrucecastle.org.uk Membership forms are available from the Reception Desk at Bruce Castle Museum.

Other local voluntary cultural, heritage and art groups

There are a significant number of voluntary local cultural, heritage and art groups in Haringey, in addition to the Friends of Bruce Castle.

Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive work with a wide range of community groups each year.

The following list of voluntary culture, heritage and art groups are just a small selection of what goes on in Haringey. These groups regularly participate with Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive, especially at the annual Haringey Local History Fair, and in providing talks and supporting events at Bruce Castle.

Follow the web links below to find out what they do and how you can get involved.
