Walking Tour: The Black History of Stroud Green

This walk starts at Finsbury Park Station and looks at some of the Black History that connects the area with its large African and Caribbean population.

Your guide, Avril Nanton, will take you around the area, pointing out interesting and fascinating historical places that you've probably walked past many times.

This walk will look at:

Pop-up Curious Spaces Exhibition: fabrics and canvas creations by Christelle Mutombo-Cartier (aka Kabikanvas) (full run of exhibition)

At the Makers’ Studio in Bruce Castle Museum and Archive.

Christelle Mutombo-Cartier says:

"My art is created by using fabrics especially wax material on canvases to make beautiful and unique pieces of art and using different techniques.

"The majority of material is recycled and I’ve been now for couple of years collecting some great piece from a local tailor otherwise it would go in the bin, so I try to do my bit for a better way of living by recycling."

An opportunity to buy one of Christelle’s original canvases and to meet the artist.

Getting the measure of William Bedwell: maths, measurement and the Arabic world (full run of exhibition)

Discover the story of the Tottenham vicar who was a leading figure in the study of Arabic in the early 1600s.

Developed in partnership with PhD Researcher Samantha Brown, the exhibition explores Bedwell’s Tottenham, his interest in mathematics and the role he had in the development of Arabic Studies in England.

Through manuscripts, maps, artefacts and contemporary artworks by Mary Yacoob, the exhibition brings the little-known story of William Bedwell to life.

This exhibition is kindly funded by The Royal Society.

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 1pm to 5pm.
