Highgate School Supplementary Planning Document Consultation
On 24 July 2017 Haringey Council adopted a Site Allocations development plan document which allocated Highgate School (allocation SA41) to establish the principle of the refurbishment / redevelopment of school buildings and the enhancement of facilities including community access.
We have prepared a draft document to supplement Site Allocation 41 which outlines how Highgate School proposes to enhance or redevelop its buildings over the next 10 years. The draft document is the Highgate School Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and, if adopted, will provide a masterplan for the School’s future development.
Have your say
From 26 October to 21 December 2020 (extended from 7 December)
While we appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone and responding to consultations such as this may be more challenging, we believe that it is important to ensure we continue to plan positively for our borough. This includes taking a comprehensive approach to the effective planning and delivery of new accommodation to meet the long term needs of Highgate School and support enhanced community use and benefits.
The SPD recognises that the School’s historic and contemporary buildings make a significant positive contribution to the built environment of the area. The SPD seeks to ensure that the School continues to show shown great sensitivity in the conservation, repair and enhancement of its built heritage and in its approach to new buildings. It is also important that the school environment is accessible and environmentally sustainable and this SPD sets the framework for doing so.
We are therefore inviting comments on this draft SPD over a public participation period, beginning on 26 October and ending 21 December 2020 (extended from 7 December).

The SPD is also available to view at local libraries. The opening hours of Haringey libraries have been affected by COVID-19, please check the times of your local branch before planning your visit.
As we can't facilitate in-person events at this time, we will be holding two online consultation events, where officers from the council will present the key content of the SPD and then invite questions from participants.School staff will also be in attendance to help answer questions about the school.
These events are open to all and will be held on Microsoft Teams, which is free to access. The next event will be held on Wednesday 9 December 2020, at 7pm.
If you can't attend the live event, the presentation and a document summarising the main questions and answers given, will be posted here afterwards.
This event is a repeat of the event held on the 25 November 2020. You can download the presentation from that event below:
