School Streets: Measuring success
As the School Streets are being launched as a trial, we will undertake monitoring to understand the impact of the School Street, including:
- traffic counts (where possible due to COVID-19)
- air quality monitoring data will be assessed
- school pupil survey
We are currently consulting - all members of the community can send us their comments.
Encouraging active travel
One of the main aims of the School Street is to encourage more people to travel actively. We have a partnership agreement in place with each of the schools and they have agreed to continue their commitments to the TfL STARS (external link) active travel programme.
With support from the Smarter Travel team, the schools will be expected to encourage higher levels of active travel among pupils and staff for the benefit of everyone and to make the most of the School Street. Part of this agreement includes conducting travel surveys for staff and pupils and taking part in active travel events and incentives.
Examples of how we support the schools with the TfL STARS programme can be found on the Haringey School Journeys page.
