School fundraising event. Come and join in the fun. Lots of new events - cycle your own smoothie and try the cycle challenge. Smarter Travel will be there offering information and advice on walking, cycling, road safety and greener driving.

Bring your bike along for a quick maintenance check and get information and advice on walking, cycling, road safety and greener driving. The One You Haringey team will be on hand to help you make changes and offer guidance on making you improve your health and life.

14 July, 11am meeting @ Chestnuts Cafe

Tottenham Parks - Cafe Walking Trail Starting at: Chestnuts Cafe, St Ann's Road, N15 5BN

Free guided walk, taking in nine parks in Tottenham covering 6 miles/9.5km discovering Tottenham's beautiful parks and green spaces.

Collect a park map and information from any of the 7 cafes en route: Chestnuts, Lordship Rec, Tower Gardens Park, Bruce Castle Park, Hartingdon Park, Down Lane Park, Tottenham Marshes and Markfield Park.

Suitable for all ages but be prepared for 6 mile walk and bring your own refreshments or funds for purchases.

This will be the launch of the route, but you use the route map any time. 

21 July, 1-5pm
Hale Village Summer Festival, Perkin Square, Hale Village, Tottenham Hale, N17

Opportunity for children to play together and try out crafts, dance to live music, bouncy castle, face painting, tombola and much more. This Summer event will celebrate the harvest from the neighbourhood allotment, and you can enjoy a fun afternoon with your neighbours.

Smarter Travel team from Haringey offering free smoothie - make them yourself, bring your bike along for a quick maintenance check and get information and advice on walking, cycling, road safety and greener driving.

Cycle Skills Training for children aged 9+

Venue: Finsbury Park Ball Games Area, N4

Booking is essential: please book by contacting Cycle Confident Ltd on 0203 031 6730 or visit the Cycle Confident website (external link). For ages 9 and over.

  • Cycle training for those who need to Learn to Ride (1 Hour per day)
  • Cycle Training for those who wish to cycle to school with confidence! Level 1 and 2 Bikeability courses are designed to give trainees the skills needed to make a journey to and from school on quiet roads (2 hours per day)

Check suitability with Cycle Confident if the young person has additional needs.

28 July, 1-5pmLove Lane Fun DayEvent for the Love Lane community to enjoy and bring together community. Haringey Smarter Travel Team will bring their smoothie cycle to create your own smoothie drink and supply information and advice on walking, cycling, road safety and greener driving.

Xplorer - Orienteering for all agesOrienteering walking activity – a great way for individuals and families to explore their local park:
  • Starting point is the cafes in each park, during the times stated
  • No registration needed, just turn up
  • Suitable for all including people with disabilities although support will be needed at your discretion

Haringey Smarter Travel Team are supporting this venture with their information stall and their bike security marking and Dr Bike maintenance - bring your bike along to be checked and fine tuned to help keep you cycling your way to work, health and fun.
18 August, 10am-5pmThe Great Fete @ Alexandra Palace


Supporting this amazing festival the Smarter Travel Team will be there with their smoothie bike and the famous Dr Bike, keep your bicycle in tip top condition to enjoy the summer even more. We can sort out your brakes, gears and wheels, as well as information to help reduce pollution through changing the way you travel, or to save money and to improve your health.

15 SeptemberLordship Flower and Produce show, Lordship Rec, Lordship Lane, N17A beautiful event celebrating the harvest of fruits, vegetables and flowers of the season. Lots of fun to be had for all ages, in one of Haringey's award winning parks. Come along to enjoy the activities and meet Haringey's Smarter Travel Team and get your bicycle checked over by Dr Bike.

Various dates and times in three Haringey Parks.

Bring your bike along for a quick maintenance check. Repair punctures, adjust brakes and gears and saddle etc. If you know you need a part replaced bring it along. Dr Bike will be near the park café on the dates shown in the leaflet.

Cycle training and maintenance is delivered by Cycle Confident (external link) funded by TfL and Smarter Travel.

Personal Travel Planning (PTP)

We are now delivering PTP sessions and assisting partners, carers and staff to re-assess their travel from home to school and are introducing Walking Zones to schools to encourage active travel for health and to reduce pollution and improve road safety at our schools. Email smarter.travel@haringey.gov.uk or telephone the Smarter Travel Team on 020 8489 5351.

Sky Rides and Breeze Rides

New Sky Rides (external link) have been announced throughout London that are open to men, women and families. Choose from Easy, Steady or Challenging rides.

Please contact us if you are interested in women only rides. We regularly advertise these here and the routes and dates are posted on the Sky Ride Breeze Website (external link).

Cycle Training in Haringey is Free

Free lessons for everyone who lives, works or studies in Haringey to learn to cycle safely and confidently, individually or in fun group sessions. We will help you learn to ride or improve your skills. These lessons are for children from the age of 9yrs and for adults.

Our cycle training provider has a programme to deliver cycle training to schools in the borough. Why not make sure you are road safe by contacting our training provider.
Improve your own cycle skills and enjoy safer cycling with your children too, by signing up for a lesson.

Active Travel Projects

Active Travel Community Projects Funding 2017/18

This year 10 organisations are running projects which support the community to walk, cycle or use public transport rather than driving their car. The organisations applied for up to £4,000 of funding from TfL to get their project started. Cycle maintenance project which includes the opportunity for participants who need a bike to apply for a free recycled bike through the scheme.

Muslim Action for Development and Environment (MADE)

Inter faith Cycle Ride – Tour De Salah

Various group rides from shorter 5km rides up to 100km around London. TDS was set up to encourage Muslims to get healthier and more environmentally consciences by riding their bikes for work and leisure. 

This year TDS is running a Faith Ride, where people of all faiths are invited to take part in the event. The rides will still stop at different Mosques, and may also stop at other faith centres along the way.

The date for the main ride is still TBC however this year we will offer

  • Heavily subsidised fees of just £10, for all individuals living, working or studying in Haringey
  • A free hire bike from Mobike if you do not own a bike
  • Smaller local rides suitable for families with small children
  • Practice rides through-out the year
  • Induction to cycling without stabilisers – with guidance to parents
