Active Travel Projects

Active Travel Grants for Community Organisations

Smarter Travel has now awarded grants to organisations in the borough - all will promote walking and cycling schemes for residents. Unfortunately due to the current pandemic crisis, these schemes are on hold until  people are able to safely have social meetings again.

Smarter Travel Roadshow and Events

Xplorer Orienteering

Xplorer Orienteering is a fun, free walking activity for all your class or family. 

  1. Download the map
  2. Find your park
  3. Start the adventure!

Public Health is organising this event, which is part of the Healthy Schools Programme

This is a self-led orienteering activity. There will be markers placed around the park with messages and facts on them. Write down all of them, learn how to use the map to get around. Increase your daily steps and feel good about exercise.

Sessions details:

  • Session 1 - Xplorer for schools around Lordship Rec 
    • Friday 15 October, 10-12 and 1-3pm (start at The Hub cafe)
  • Session 2 - Xplorer for schools around Chestnuts Park
    • Tuesday 19 October, 10-12 and 1-3pm (start at park cafe)
  • Session 3 - Halloween Xplorer  Family Orienteering around Priory Park (with Halloween style markers!)
    • Wednesday 25 October, 10am - 3pm (meet at cafe)

Tree Trail at Bruce Castle Park

The Museum and Parks Service produced a tree trail for the park. It details an exciting trail for children to follow.

A Walk in the Park - all Haringey Parks

COVID-19 (coronavirus): please observe social distancing rules in our parks and stay at least two metres (six feet) from everyone else. Do not use the shared areas (playgrounds, outdoor gyms), do not mix with people from other households and keep your dog on a lead.

Visit our beautiful award-winning parks: walk through history, visit a park café or just enjoy the Green Flag parks in our borough.

A new resource created by Friends of Lordship Rec shows how to walk through Haringey and enjoy our hidden and not so hidden gems - see the A Walk in the Park leaflet (PDF, 5MB)

Try Before You Bike scheme

We have organised for Peddle My Wheels to continue working. They offer you and your family the opportunity to own a bike on a pay monthly basis. See the Peddle My Wheels website (external link) for further details.

Cycle Skills Training

Cycle Skill training sessions are now available for intermediate cyclists. So if you can cycle independently, but want to improve your confidence and road skills, book two 2-hour sessions through our cycle training company.

Sky Rides and Breeze Rides

New Sky Rides (external link) have been announced throughout London that are open to men, women and families. Choose from Easy, Steady or Challenging rides.

Please contact us if you are interested in women only rides. We regularly advertise these here and the routes and dates are posted on the Sky Ride Breeze Website (external link).
