We aim to provide a quality street lighting service to the borough working in partnership with our contractors, Marlborough.
We have invested £4.8 million in all 17,423 streetlights across Haringey to convert them to LED and to introduce smart lighting through a new central management computer system managed by Urbis Schréder.
This has made the borough’s street lighting more responsive and therefore safer for residents, as well as more environmentally friendly by significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Report a faulty street light
When reporting a faulty street light it helps us if you can supply:
- The street name and nearest house number to the street lamp
- The identity code number attached to the column
Emergency faults
We will take immediate action to make the light safe in the following circumstances:
- Missing panel and exposed wires
- Lighting column knocked down or left bent and leaning
- Traffic bollards on traffic islands

Non-emergency faults - report online via My Account
Please let us know if you spot:
- a broken street light
- a street light that stays on during the day - we don't pay for the wasted electricity, but every time it stays on for 24 hours it shortens the life of the lamp and will cost us more in the long term to maintain
When reporting a faulty street light it helps us if you can supply:
- The street name and nearest house number to the street lamp
- The identity code number attached to the column
If you report a problem with street lights, lit signs or lit bollards using My Account, you'll be able to view the progress of your report:

What happens once I have submitted a report?
We will inspect the problem within 2 working days and decide how urgently it needs to be fixed.
How long should it take?
Defects that are hazardous or serious will be prioritised.
- Hazardous defects will be repaired within 24 hours
- Serious defects will be repaired within 7 days
We will aim to repair other defects that are not serious or hazardous within 28 working days, but we do not have the resources to repair every defect within that timescale and so will prioritise the more serious and potentially dangerous defects.
How will I be kept up to date?
We will contact you by email to let you know the result of the inspection and again when the repair has been completed.
You can also report this using your mobile phone via the Our Haringey app.
Or via the contact details below.
We also carry out night-time inspections twice monthly.
UK Power Networks
Some faults to the street lighting are caused by a power supply problem to the lights. It should be noted that UK Power Networks are responsible for the power supply to most of the borough’s highways’ lighting.
If you have reported a fault to us via the Our Haringey app which we have passed on to UK Power Network, then you will have received an email update stating that this has been referred to UK Power Networks and that they will take up to 28 days to repair.
You can see the status of the power supply problems on UK Power Networks' street furniture fault map (external link). Please note that the fault map may not be updated straight away with recent faults that have been reported.
General enquiries
Please contact us online with problems or concerns about street lighting and signs or bollards. We will try to deliver you the best service that we can.
Street lighting consultation
Thank you for taking the time to respond to our Street Lighting Common Place consultation, which closed on 30 April 2023. After analysing the survey responses we hope to start some of the work during Autumn 2023. Some of the issues raised will need detailed analysis and design options and any resulting implementation works are then likely to begin from early in 2024.
Our longer-term plans
We have programmes in place to renew older lighting columns in the borough with new ones that meet the latest European Standards.
