W7 bus stop to stay and may take in other routes
A trial bus stop in the centre of Muswell Hill has proved so popular that it will now become a permanent stop and may be used for other routes.
Last November, a bus stop for the W7 southbound route through Crouch End to Finsbury Park was placed outside Boots the Chemist on Muswell Hill roundabout for a six month trial period.
The trial came in response to passengers who complained that the existing bus stop on the steep slope of Muswell Hill was difficult and sometimes impossible to access for people with mobility issues, especially those needing to access neighbourhood health services at the foot of the hill on Park Road.
The roundabout site was chosen following consultation with bus companies and research into safety, accessibility and traffic flows in the area.
Since the trial started many passengers have told the council that the new stop has made it easier for them to travel to other parts of the borough along the W7 route.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
"I am pleased to say that the W7 bus stop trial has been successful with over 200 people a day using it and it will now be a permanent feature."Many passengers have told us how much more convenient the stop is and there has been little impact on traffic flow in the area."Indeed, the stop has proved so popular that TfL has agreed to a trial period for the 144 route once the permanent roadworks have been completed in the autumn."
TfL will fund the infrastructure work which includes pedestrian accessibility improvements at the Muswell Hill Broadway and Dukes Avenue junctions, as well as resurfacing of the footway.
This work is expected to take place during the summer school holidays.
