Two jabs needed to enter nightclubs from September
At last night’s coronavirus press conference, the Prime Minister announced that people attending nightclubs, and other venues where large crowds gather in England, will need to be fully vaccinated from the end of September.
Latest figures show 35% of 18 to 30-year-olds have not had their first jab.
Currently nightclubs and other crowded venues are only encouraged to ask clubbers to show proof of vaccination, a negative test result or immunity.
However, nightclubs and other such venues could be potential ‘super spreader events’, because of crowds in close contact, and an increase in cases is expected linked to their opening up.
The announcement came on the day nightclubs in England were allowed to reopen after 16 months of closure, but the government is still concerned by the continuing risk of transmission.
By the end of September, all over 18s will have had their chance to be double jabbed and so the government sees it as appropriate to make full vaccination the condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather.
