Turkey-Syria earthquake disaster appeal
Haringey is a home to many people from Turkey and Syria, where the disastrous earthquake struck on Monday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected both here and in the region.
The residents of Haringey always come together in a crisis, and this has been no different. People have already been incredibly generous with donations. So much so that local organisations have become overwhelmed by the volume of donations of items including clothes, bedding, blankets. Those organisations are now asking residents to stop bringing these types of donations.
Instead the community are asking those who are willing and able to support these aid efforts to give financial donations, if you can, to registered charities or NGOs.
We have listed fundraising pages below and any donations, big or small, will help with the emergency response:
- Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) - are coordinating a range of UK charities’ aid efforts through an appeal for emergency relief efforts. Please visit the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal webpage (external website) if you wish to donate.
- Save the Children
- British Red Cross
- Oxfam
- Islamic Relief
Alternatively, you might also consider donating to a local organisation you know and trust. Haringey Giving have set up fundraising pages on their web page, which you can also donate to if you prefer to do so.
