Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness closure update

Publication date:
March 2, 2023

Cllr Sarah Williams, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Finance and Local Investment, has provided an update for residents surrounding Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness Centre.

“I am aware of the distress caused by the ongoing closure of Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness Centre. Our residents have been hugely inconvenienced and it is not acceptable that we are still without sports facilities, a library and customer service centre.

“There have now been promising discussions with the operator Fusion Lifestyle in the last few days about how we can, in the first instance, re-open the library and customer service centre. The issues have been caused by an electrical failure.

“Fusion Lifestyle has today provided confirmation that it has issued an instruction to highly specialist contractors to mobilise and start fixing the issue. Unless there is a problem with obtaining the parts, Fusion has assured us that the contractors will begin the repairs in earnest on March 14. Once those repairs commence, it will then become clearer when the library, customer service centre and nursery can open.

“The concerns that our local residents are expressing, including those from Haringey Aquatics – who gave a full account at the recent Full Council meeting on 13th February 2023 - were understood by Council Members who empathised with the frustrations that were expressed about the prolonged closure of the swimming pools.

“Although it is taking far longer than hoped to bring the leisure centre fully back into use, we have to prioritise the safety of our residents, given the complexities of dealing with low and high voltage power systems.

“However, we are doing everything to get the centre opened as soon as possible and will be publishing regular updates for residents.”
