Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness and Park Road closure update

Publication date:
January 27, 2023

Cllr Julie Davies, Cabinet Member for Communities and Civic Life, has provided an update on the closure of Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness and Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service Centre, while there has also been an issue at Park Road following an inspection of the facilities.

“I understand that many of our residents have been frustrated and disappointed with the ongoing closure of Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness and Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service Centre. I want to be clear that I share this disappointment.

“This has clearly caused a great deal of inconvenience as this has been closed since the beginning of the month. While we are pleased that we will hopefully be able to reopen the gym, library and customer service centre within the next few weeks, we continue to wait for a timeframe for the reopening of the pools.

“We have asked Fusion to provide us with clear answers to these questions so that we can keep residents updated and get services back up and running, but frustratingly they have been unable to provide them.

“In addition, through an inspection of the facilities at Park Road, our leisure team have identified maintenance issues and consider it necessary for the pools at Park Road to be closed until such time they are properly addressed. While we appreciate this will cause further frustration, protecting the safety of pool users and staff always has to be our top priority. Our health and safety team has also been involved in assessing the situation and working to help Fusion Lifestyle make the improvements needed to reopen the pool.

“We have been disappointed with Fusion’s response to this situation and with Fusion’s failure to provide a timetable for satisfactorily addressing these issues and ensuring the pools can be safely used by residents.

“Whilst Fusion has been providing refunds for Tottenham Green Leisure Centre users, the Council expects Fusion to do likewise for any inability to use some of the Park Road facilities.

“Going forward we will be reviewing arrangements in our leisure provision to ensure that residents get the best possible service, and that closures like this are not repeated in the future.”

Update, 5pm:

We have now received a draft timetable from Fusion for the reopening of the pools at Park Road and the dry side facilities at Tottenham Green.

Update 4pm, Monday 30 January:

We are considering the draft timeline and as part of this consideration have asked Fusion for more detail.
