New Zealand mosque attacks
A message from Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, on the mosque attacks in New Zealand:
Last night in New Zealand members of the Muslim community were killed because of their faith. On behalf of the people of Haringey I want to pass on condolences and our sympathy to all those affected by this terrorist attack.
Haringey stands with the people of Christchurch.
The Mayor of London has announced that today there will be highly visible policing around mosques, plus armed response officers, as communities go to pray. That is the case in Haringey too where we will see a visible presence locally.
We have seen the impact that attacks like these can have on communities locally. In Haringey we say: there is no room for hate. We have always been clear that an attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us.
We are proud of our incredible diversity, our social cohesion and our strong communities.
Let me reiterate, the people of Haringey are standing alongside the people of Christchurch at this difficult time.
If you do see something suspicious, please contact the police on 999 or the counter terror hotline on 0800 789 321.
