New guidance on weddings, funerals and commemorative events in Tier 4
Under the new Tier 4: Stay at Home Covid-19 guidance no weddings or civil partnership ceremonies should take place - except in exceptional circumstances.
Those circumstances include where a person is seriously ill and not expected to recover ("deathbed wedding") or is due to undergo debilitating treatment or life-changing surgery.
These weddings are limited to 6 people.
Any wedding, funeral or linked commemorative event in an area with a lower tier, that has a guest who lives in a Tier 4 area, must follow the maximum Tier 4 gathering limits.
Funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people. Linked religious, belief-based or commemorative events, such as stone settings and ash scatterings can also continue with up to 6 people in attendance in Tier 4 areas.
Anyone working is not counted in these limits. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a Support Bubble.
