New £1.5 million CCTV control room to keep Haringey streets safe
A new state-of-the-art CCTV control room has been unveiled as part of a £4 million investment in CCTV infrastructure that will help keep Haringey streets safer for residents, visitors and businesses across the borough.
Boasting wall-to-wall monitors and future-proof tech upgrades that will allow 24/7 operation, the new £1.5 million control room is perfectly suited for monitoring Haringey’s expanding network of cameras.
The new control room accommodates up to 21 operatives and consists of a traffic enforcement area, capture area, CCTV suite and police review area
This will allow the council’s community safety team to keep a close eye on key areas such as town centres to look out for crime, antisocial behaviour, traffic offenses, parking infringements and illegal waste dumping.
Cllr Erdal Dogan, Cabinet Member for Stronger and Safer Communities, said: “Keeping our residents and visitors safe is always our top priority. Effective CCTV infrastructure is a key part of that, and I’m proud of these significant investments that we’ve made in CCTV across the borough.
“Crime and antisocial behaviour need a multi-agency response, which is why we’re working with the police and a wide range of other partners to ensure we tackle these problems from every angle. This state-of-the-art new control room demonstrates the level of investment and value that the council is bringing to this partnership.”
The new control room is part of a four-year project which has seen Haringey Council invest a total of over £4 million to improve the borough’s CCTV network and infrastructure.
When completed later this year, the project will see a massive increase in overall camera inventory throughout the Borough, more than doubling the camera stock from its previous 132 cameras to over 282.
As well as fixed pole mounted CCTV cameras there will also be an additional 40 re-deployable CCTV cameras that can moved within the Borough to tackle areas of high crime, antisocial behaviour and illegal waste dumping.
