Leader's statement - Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness Centre

Publication date:
February 24, 2023

Cllr Peray Ahmet, Leader of Haringey Council, has issued a statement surrounding the closure of Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service Centre at Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness Centre.

I am extremely disappointed that our residents are still without a Customer Service Centre and Library that they can use at Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness Centre.

I know this prolonged closure has caused significant disruption and our residents have been inconvenienced and forced to travel elsewhere in the borough.

This is simply not acceptable. We have been pushing Fusion to fix this issue and believed we had a plan in place to ensure this was dealt with as quickly as possible so that we can get these vital services back up and running.

We have asked Fusion for clarity on what is happening and have not received the level of assurance that we are looking for.

There are further meetings planned for the end of the month where we hope to get greater detail on how the remedial works needed will be delivered and by when.

We will of course continue to provide an alternative venue for our residents who need customer service support and have increased capacity at Wood Green Customer Service Centre for the duration of the closure.

Residents can also access the customer services online or by phone on 020 8489 1000.

We will continue to press for answers and do everything in our power to get Marcus Garvey Library and the Customer Service Centre back up and running as soon as possible, as well as a timeframe for the re-opening of the pools.

Further information for residents:

Marcus Garvey Library users can access library services at nearby St Ann’s Library (Cissbury Road, Tottenham, N15 5PU), which reopened on Monday 6 February following a closure for planned building works, as well as at Coombes Croft Library (High Road, Tottenham, N17 8AG) or online.

Books and other items borrowed from Marcus Garvey Library can be returned to any council-run library in Haringey (find a full list of our libraries by following this link).

Tottenham Green Leisure Centre members can use New River Sport and Fitness (White Hart Lane, N22 5QW), Park Road Pools and Fitness (Park Road, Hornsey, N8 8JN) or other Fusion Lifestyle centres, including those in Enfield. Follow this link for a full list of Fusion Lifestyle centres in north London.
