Haringey Together shortlisted for The Innovation in Politics Awards
Haringey Together has been chosen as a finalist for The Innovation in Politics Awards 2020 (external link), in the category ‘Coping with Covid-19’.
The Awards recognise outstanding political innovation and dedicated and inspirational policymakers in Europe. Haringey Together was selected by 1058 jurors from 47 countries and was shortlisted alongside nine other finalists out of 398 entries (external link).
Haringey Together focuses on bringing the community together to support one another. The webpages pull together a hub of information and support for residents in Haringey during the Covid-19 pandemic including; help and support for residents and local businesses, information about changes to services, advice on staying safe and positive during the pandemic as well as information about how residents can help their community.
Through Haringey Together, staff and volunteers came forward from across the borough to help the community, an example of which is the delivery of over 20,557 food parcels to approximately 4,000 households in Haringey.
Many people were volunteering for the first time and really valued making a difference to residents at a time of great stress and challenge. Staff from across the Council also stepped away from their normal jobs to support the community during the pandemic, learning new skills and dusting off ones not frequently used too.
The finalists, and the winners in each category will be invited to a special presentation on social media.
Cllr James, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said:
“It’s wonderful to be recognised in this way. The priority has always been to ensure that our residents, particularly our most vulnerable, have access to the support they need during this challenging time. I’m proud of the way our community has rallied together to support each other during the pandemic - Haringey’s greatest strength is, and will continue to be, its people."
