Haringey residents set to benefit from 1000 new council homes
Haringey Council have taken their first major step towards delivering 1000 new council homes in the borough after planning voted to approve a major transformation of Tottenham Hale.
As part of the exciting new development, the local authority has agreed to acquire 131 homes on the Welbourne Site that will provide council homes at council rents and a much-needed health centre that meets the needs of local people.
Across five sites, the Argent Related-council partnership will deliver new homes at a variety of tenures, a reinvigorated town centre, workspace, shops and restaurants.
The wider regeneration will also deliver better green spaces, improved infrastructure for cycling and walking, Ada National College for Digital Skills and a new technology incubator (WAYRA).
Building work is expected to start in 2019 and the site is due to be opened in 2021.
The resolution of Haringey planning committee is subject to referral to the Mayor of London.
Councillor Joseph Ejiofor, Leader of Haringey Council, said:
“Haringey Council intends to deliver 1000 additional council homes during the forthcoming four-years and 13 per cent of that will come from this site as well as a desperately needed health centre that has been backed by Dr John Rohan and will address the health deficit suffered by Tottenham residents.
“London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has set challenging housing targets for every borough, which he intends to increase further in order to meet the housing needs of Londoners.
“Londoners need housing across all tenures, social rent, affordable rent, market rent, shared ownership and market sale, and this development will deliver some of all of these and as well as a significant proportion of Haringey’s annual target.”
Residents will also benefit from more homes being built at Plevna Crescent in Seven Sisters after the local authority agreed to deliver more Council-owner affordable homes in the area.
