Haringey approves plans to build more council homes at council rents
Plans have been approved to build new council homes in south Tottenham as Haringey Council’s housebuilding programme remains well on track to start construction work on 1000 council homes by March 2022.
Haringey’s cabinet have approved the appropriation of currently empty land at Lealand Road N15, upon which three new council homes will be delivered at council rents: two three-bedroom homes and a two-bedroom home which will be fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Not only will the new homes help to reduce the housing shortage and give more Haringey families the chance at a secure future in secure housing, but the homes will also be energy-efficient and low-carbon.
This ensures that the new generation of Haringey Council homes are designed to a high standard in terms of sustainability as well as comfort and supports the council’s Borough Plan commitment to achieving a greener local environment.
Building work has now begun on almost 400 council homes on sites across the borough and residents will be handed keys to the very first Haringey Council homes to be delivered at council rent in a generation.
Cllr Emine Ibrahim, Cabinet Member for Housing and Estate Renewal, said:
This decision moves our housebuilding programme a step further to reaching our housing target for council homes at council rent and means that the council will be delivering even more quality homes for Haringey families.
We remain committed to delivering new council homes in all areas of the borough and I’m encouraged by the progress being made that will benefit local residents.
