Council invites residents’ views on New Local Plan
Residents in Haringey are invited to share their views on the New Local Plan, to help shape how the borough addresses challenges, such as housing, climate change, inequality and recovery from COVID-19.
As a first step in preparing the New Local Plan, the council has this week launched a First Steps Engagement consultation, to learn the views of residents, local businesses and stakeholders, on the key issues and challenges facing the borough and how they feel these should be addressed in the Plan.
The Local Plan is used to decide on planning applications for new developments and buildings in the borough. The New Local Plan is set to come into effect in 2022 and will run for a period of 15 years, to 2037. It will replace the existing Local Plan which the council adopted in 2017.
The council is keen that the New Local Plan reflects the views of local people. People can learn more about the First Steps Engagement consultation online, and can share feedback on issues that matter most to them, such as housing, climate change, economy and infrastructure. The dedicated consultation website (external link)also has useful easy-read guides and FAQs on the key themes of the Plan.
The consultation can take as little as 10 minutes to complete and runs for a period of 11 weeks, from Monday 16 November 2020 to 5pm on 1 February 2021.
The council will also be holding a series of virtual consultation events (external link) to provide information on the New Local Plan and gather feedback. Further information can be found on the New Local Plan webpage.
Cllr White, Cabinet Member for Planning and Strategic Transport, said:
“We’ve launched this consultation because we want to work with our residents, local businesses and stakeholders to shape our borough.
“It’s an opportunity for us to hear the views of the people who will ultimately be impacted by planning decisions and give them an opportunity to shape how those decisions are made.
“We appreciate that this a difficult time for everyone and responding to consultations such as this may be more challenging, but we feel it is important that we continue to plan positively for our borough and encourage all who can to share their views.”
