As part of the Wood Green Neighbourhood of the Future project, Haringey Council has procured an App from Cleancar, which will enable residents and businesses to assess whether switching to an Electric Vehicle (EV) will be financially beneficial.
The CleanCar App uses GPS to automatically record the user’s car journeys, from which it creates a vehicle usage profile. Once the profile is calculated, the system compares usage against the range and charging restrictions of EVs on the market and shows if an EV is suitable and how much money will be saved by making the switch.
The App is free to use and is now available to all residents in the borough. It will be available to 1,000 users on a first-come-first-serve basis.
In addition, as part of the council’s plans to promote sustainability and a greener and cleaner Haringey, 12 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points have been recently installed in the borough, bringing the total to 59 publicly accessible points, which can be viewed on the Zap-Map (external link).
The charging points will now make it easier and more accessible for residents with EVs to charge their cars and will encourage more residents to consider greener modes of transport when buying a vehicle in the future.
The work ties into the council’s Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Action Plan, which seeks to address increasing transport emissions and air pollution, as well as the growing demand for electric vehicles and how to facilitate the switch to ultra low emission vehicles.
Cllr Hearn, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Sustainability at Haringey Council, said:
“While we need to move away from car travel in Haringey, Electric Vehicles can be helpful to reduce emissions in the short-term. We know that more and more of our residents are seeking to make the switch to quieter, cleaner and lower carbon modes of transport, including Electric Vehicles.
“We hope that initiatives, such as the Clean Car App will help people to see the financial and environmental benefits of switching to an Electric Vehicle.
“Alongside side this, we have been working to expand the EV charging point network in the borough to support our residents in the uptake of electric and ultra-low emission vehicles."
