Part of a borough-wide and significant £4.9m investment by Haringey Council across our branch libraries in recent years, Muswell Hill Library will swing open its doors to the public on Monday 29 September 2025.
It will be the very first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that all nine Haringey libraries will be open simultaneously, underlining the upgrade projects that have taken place on-site as well as the council’s commitment to future-proofing Haringey’s libraries for the next generations.
Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, said:
I’m very much looking forward to seeing Muswell Hill Library re-open later this month.
We love and value our libraries as much as our residents do and cannot wait for them to explore and experience this brand, new community hub in a few weeks’ time.
Upon re-opening following its major refurbishment, our residents will benefit from more accessible and improved facilities courtesy of a reconfigured floorplan, with interior redecoration providing new bespoke lighting and furniture too. This provision will also be bolstered by a new accessible toilet and lift on-site, as well as a designated area for local young people to learn and study.
Thank you to the community for your patience while the refurbishments were completed. We’re excited to welcome everyone back.
The permanent Haringey Libraries Service operating hours will also be going live on the same day (Monday 29 September 2025).
The switch from interim to permanent service hours will give Haringey residents increased certainty over the availability of our library provision across the borough.

Two of the borough’s three main libraries – Hornsey in the west and Marcus Garvey in the east –will operate a seven-day service, with the third (Wood Green) opening its doors six days a week.
Half of Haringey’s six branch libraries – Coombes Croft (six days), Muswell Hill (five days) and St Ann’s (five days) – will welcome residents for at least five days of the week, with Alexandra Park, Highgate and Stroud Green and Harringay opening for four.
This new operating model was approved at Cabinet in December 2024 following an extensive engagement process involving library users from across Haringey.
Every effort has been made to ensure equitable access to libraries in every part of the borough.
Meanwhile, there’s still time for Haringey residents to have their say and help the council shape the borough’s libraries of the future.
