Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, joined Hermitage and Gardens Cllrs Ann Lawton and Mike Hakata, who is also the Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, on a ward walkabout with the council’s partners and staff on Wednesday (23 July 2025).
It proved to be a productive week as residents voiced their concerns over issues that are affecting them in the local area.
Council officers were stationed at the Central Hub and covered a number of different departments and services, including: Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), Community Safety, Hate Crime, Homelessness Outreach, Housing Repairs, Parking, Parks’ ASB and Waste Enforcement.
Following the ward walkabout, Cllr Ajda Ovat said:
The walkabout with council services and key partners, such as the police, allows us to identify issues and hotspot areas within the ward and address concerns raised by residents coming to the Central Engagement Hub right here within the heart of the ward.
Cllr Hakata commented:
It has been a really productive and positive week, with large amounts of casework being picked up from officers directly being able to communicate and speak to residents across the ward – from licensing and waste enforcement and housing issues, as well as crime and ASB.
Cllr Lawton added:
It has been a brilliant week and particularly on Wednesday, when we walked through the whole ward as we did.
Obviously, as ward Cllrs, myself and Mike are lucky enough to be here in the ward all the time talking to residents, but bringing down these key services, key officers to speak to the residents directly, hear their concerns and act on the issues has been brilliant.
