The 96-year-old open air pool will welcome back swimmers from 7am to 7pm on 27 June after a ten-day break.
Major improvements include the replacement of ageing pool pumps and pipework which had approached the end of their life cycle, along with new pool covers.
Both measures will lead to a saving of over £35,000 in the running costs of the Lido and reduce the overall carbon emissions from its operation.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, said:
We’re delighted that the Lido will be re-opening on schedule, with residents now benefitting from this newly renovated provision during peak season.
We cannot wait to welcome our residents back to the Lido, which we know means so much to them. It’s a vital component in supporting their mental health and physical wellbeing.
By investing in these essential improvements to the Lido and other facilities such as the teaching pool, we’re underlining our commitment to ensure Park Road Leisure Centre continues to thrive as a community hub now and in the future.
Further upgrades will be taking place at Park Road – and across our entire Leisure provision – in the days, weeks and months ahead and we’re sure residents will begin to notice a marked improvement in terms of user experience accordingly as a result.
Some areas around the Lido will remain cordoned off while the preparatory works for the pool covers are finalised, although the majority of the grass areas will be available at the weekend.
Preparatory works for the installation of new pool covers will continue next week and some areas around the Lido cordoned off to ensure safe installation, which will take place on 3 July. The installation of the covers will result in the Lido being closed for a portion of that day.
The Lido will be closed to the general public from 1:30pm on Sunday 13 July as Haringey Aquatics Club are holding a special event to recognise Paul Doyle, who is leaving after many years as their head coach, as well as an awards ceremony.
Meanwhile, the upgrade to the indoor teaching pool is progressing well, with the tiling to the inside of the pool scheduled to be completed this week. Grouting of the tiling will then precede the pool being filled and the water balanced.
