Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure Cllr Emily Arkell was joined by local ward councillors in Hornsey, Elin Weston and Dana Carlin, to mark the start of a major revamp of the facilities today (24 June 2025).
Major improvements include a zipwire and two multi use units, obstacle course, trampoline, two new springers, three play panels, relocation of the roundabout and remedial work to the sandpit.
The upgrade will be complemented by two new picnic benches, with trees and wildflowers planted in partnership with the community in the Autumn to increase biodiversity and create more shade.
Cllr Arkell said:
I’m delighted work has started on major improvements to another children’s play area in one of our much-loved parks. It will provide an accessible, inclusive and safe space for children to exercise, play and socialise in.
We held community engagement sessions with pupils from local primary schools to ensure the final designs meet their expectations, needs and requirements.
We’ll also be working in partnership with the local community to help improve biodiversity and provide a shaded area with some tree and wildflower planting in the Autumn.
I’m looking forward to the re-opening of the playground in Priory Park in time for the school summer holidays next month, when children and families from Hornsey, Crouch End and beyond will get to benefit from the improvements we’ve made to this space.
The council has invested heavily to maintain its green spaces over recent years, including exciting upgrades to children’s play areas at Down Lane Park, Elizabeth Place, OR Tambo Rec and Russell Park.
Wood Green Common is also re-opening with another brand-new playground and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) this summer.
The children’s playground in Priory Park is currently scheduled to re-open towards the end of next month (July 2025).
Crouch End and Hornsey families and residents are advised that their closest play spaces in the meantime while the Priory Park children’s play area is closed are Alexandra Park Playground (N10 2QB) and Clarendon Play Area (N8 0JX).
