Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, Cllr Zena Brabazon and Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care, and Wellbeing Cllr Lucia das Neves visited Earlham Primary School to see first-hand how breakfast clubs are setting pupils up for success.
Engaging with students and teachers, they saw how these morning sessions provide children with a nutritious start, fuelling their focus and energy for the day ahead.
Funded by the Department for Education (DfE), Earlham Primary, located in White Hart Lane, is one of three pilot schools in Haringey participating in the national pilot programme.
These 30-minute breakfast sessions are designed to improve attendance and achievement by ensuring no child starts their school day hungry. Studies show that breakfast clubs can boost children’s reading, writing, and maths skills by an average of two months.
Beyond providing nutritious meals that meet School Food Standards, the initiative also fosters learning and friendships through activities such as reading and crafts - creating a positive and engaging start to the day.
As part of a planned national rollout set to begin in September, parents will have the opportunity to drop their children off 30 minutes earlier, potentially saving families up to £450 a year.
