There are packed schedules to mark both Mental Health Awareness Week (Monday 12 May-Sunday 18 May 2025) and Dementia Action Week (Monday 19 May-Sunday 25 May 2025) across the provision.

Our Library of the Month is Stroud Green and Harringay. Throughout May, we’ll be highlighting this fabulous library and the many community initiatives it is home to, so there’s never been a better time to pay a visit to this highly popular social hub.

We’ve got a special evening lined up there on Wednesday 7 May (5:30pm-6:30pm) with a free-to-book author talk from the acclaimed historian John Man.

John will be discussing his latest book ‘Conquering the North: China, Russia, Mongolia: 2,000 Years of Conflict’ in which he traces the contours of their uneasy shared histories by travelling along forgotten trade routes and sacred mountains. Simon Sebag Montefiore says of John: “One could not wish for a better storyteller or analyst than John Man.”

The first of two fortnightly Comics Clubs at Stroud Green and Harringay Library in May is on this Saturday (3 May, 1pm-2:30pm), when young children can read all about their favourite characters like Bananaman, Bunny vs Monkey, Dennis the Menace, Donut Squad, Mega Robo Bros and Minnie the Minx. They can also read through our collections of the Beano and Phoenix comics on Saturday 17 May at the same time/s.

We also have a short, introductory course to the Alexander Technique for beginners and returners starting up at Stroud Green and Harringay on Wednesdays from 21 May to 11 June. Entitled ‘Are You Sitting Comfortably?’, this four-week course will allow you to discover how you can sit, stand and move more freely and easily, whatever your activities. The course fee is: £95. For further information, please visit Hilary King’s website.

The Islington Art Society will be holding a Spring Art exhibition between Thursday 8 May and Sunday 18 May at Hornsey Library, which will also stage Crouch End Open Studios’ summer show – showcasing the talents of so many local artists from many different disciplines – from Wednesday 28 May to Sunday 8 June.

For further information on all the exciting and fun activities and events taking place in libraries across our borough for Haringey adults, children and families alike, please download our What’s On in Libraries brochure.

We’d like to remind our residents that all Haringey libraries will be closed on the following Bank Holidays this month:

  • Monday 5 May 2025
  • Monday 26 May 2025

There remains a range of publications and resources available through our digital library service on those two days.
