12 to 15 year olds to be offered COVID-19 vaccine
On Monday 13 September, the Health and Social Care Secretary, Sajid Javid, announced that young people aged 12 to 15 in England will be offered one dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
The announcement followed recommendations from the four UK Chief Medical Officers, and the NHS is preparing to deliver a schools-based vaccination programme.
Invitations for vaccination will begin next week. Please do not contact your GP as your invitation will come through your child’s school.
Parental, guardian or carer consent will be sought by vaccination healthcare staff before vaccination, in line with existing school vaccination programmes.
School-aged children aged 12 to 15 will receive their COVID-19 vaccination in their school, with alternative provision for those who are home schooled, in secure services or specialist mental health settings.
