Latest COVID-19 news and updates for Haringey:

Avoid large gatherings in the borough

23 July 2020

As we move slowly out of the lockdown phase it is crucial that all our residents adhere to the social distance guidelines that are still in place.

Our residents have played a major role in helping us to contain the spread of the coronavirus but unfortunately a minority are still gathering in large groups across the borough.

As you may be aware, locations are being used to hold Unauthorised Music Events (UMEs) and we need your support in letting Metropolitan Police colleagues know if you see any signs of an event being set up.

The information that you give will be kept in the strictest confidence and will enable a resolution without the event causing a disturbance to residents.

In order to report any Unauthorised Music Events you see being set up, or already underway please in the first instance phone 101 your call will then go to the Police CAD room and generate a police response.

Alternatively contact Police @MetCC with details.

We would strongly urge everyone to avoid gathering in any large groups and stick to the social distance guidelines so we can keep everyone safe.

New legislation streamlines Pavement Licences

23 July 2020

As lockdown measures begin to lift and more businesses begin to reopen, adequate social distancing needs to be implemented to assure the safety of businesses, their staff and those visiting them.

From the end of July 2020 the council will be starting its Pavement Licence application process, in line with the government’s new legislation under the Business and Planning Act 2020  – making it quicker and cheaper for businesses, such as cafes, restaurants and bars, to provide adequate social distancing through additional seating outside.

Pavement Licences under the new Act will be more streamlined and quicker to apply for, with the consultation process being cut down to 14 working days compared to the current 28-day period. The fee will also be capped at £100.

The move will allow businesses to secure licences in time for the summer, to protect hospitality jobs and to help businesses provide income over the remainder of the summer.

For more information and updates, visit the council’s pavement licences webpage.

Types of coronavirus tests and when to use them

22 July 2020

The government has published guidance to help the public better understand the different types of coronavirus tests available to them and the best time to use them.

The guidance also shares information about what you should do when you receive a test result.

The types of tests available are for virus testing, which is used to check if you currently have coronavirus, and antibody testing, which is used to tell if a person has previously been infected with coronavirus.

There will be a testing facility at Alexandra Palace on Friday 24 July and Mondy 27 July. To arrange a test you will need to book first through the NHS Test and Trace Service (external link).
