Haringey coronavirus (COVID-19) updates
The government has announced that the ban on evictions will be extended for a further 4 weeks.
There will also be greater protection for tenants throughout the winter, as all landlords will be required to provide tenants with at least 6 months’ notice before an eviction – this will be in place until the end of March 2021. The rule applies in all cases except where serious issues are involved, such as domestic violence or anti-social behaviour.
Transport for London (TfL) has announced that they will be supporting schoolchildren to travel safely and sustainably, in line with social distancing guidelines, as they return to schools in September.
The plans include additional buses and dedicated school services, with an additional 200 extra dedicated school buses being made available onto some of the busiest low-frequency bus routes. TfL is also is urging children to walk, cycle and scoot to school where it is safe to do so.
TfL has also invested £3m in 415 School Street schemes, across 26 boroughs, making active journeys to school safer and easier, by limiting car access to school gates at drop-off and pick-up times.
Locally, the council is working with schools in the borough to ensure that measures to enable social distancing are in place by September, including the use of banners, Jersey Barriers and walking maps around all the schools, showing safe routes and walking times. These measures have been funded by TfL and the council.
Competitions to promote cycling, cycling schemes and active travel training will also be introduced. Keep up to date with the latest plans on the website: www.Haringey.gov.uk/school-journeys
With the majority of shops re-opened and some great discounts on offer it is vital that residents remember to follow the social distance guidelines that have been put in place.
It is now compulsory for anyone shopping inside to wear a face mask to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
For all the details around the use of face masks please click here.
Despite the easing of lockdown measures it is also crucial that everyone adheres to social distancing and remember to keep a safe distance from others.
All the information you need about social distancing can be found here.
We urge everyone to shop safely and if you are visiting local businesses across Haringey, please be respectful of others and help us avoid a second wave of the virus that could potentially lead to another lockdown.
