Most families have experienced changes to routine and added stress during the pandemic. As children and young head back to school or college this may, understandably, increase stress and anxiety for parents, carers, children and young people.
Public Health England (PHE)’s new Better Health – Every Mind Matters campaign provides NHS-endorsed tips and advice to look after children and young people’s (CYP) mental wellbeing at this time.
The advice has been developed in partnership with leading children and young people’s mental health charities and is designed to help parents and carers spot the signs that children may be struggling with their mental health, and show the actions they can take to support them.
In addition to the advice for parents and carers the site also provides tools to help young people build resilience and equips them to look after their mental wellbeing.

As children and young people return to school in September, it is understandable that there may be some concerns around safety as a result of the pandemic. The Department for Education (DfT) has created their #backtoschoolsafely campaign, with the aim to help reassure and support parents, carers and young people as they return to school and college.
This includes the parent leaflets:
- Returning to primary school: what parents need to know (PDF, 203KB)
- Returning to secondary school: what parents need to know (PDF, 229KB)
These are now translated into 13 languages (external link) to support those who may not have English as a first language.
