Trading Standards Covid-19 campaign | Stay safe in our parks this Bank Holiday weekend | Being kind to ourselves and each other
Trading Standards Covid-19 campaign
Our Trading Standards team will be promoting a number of key messages for residents and businesses over the next month to ensure everyone is following the correct guidelines during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Throughout the capital, local authorities are working hard to help protect people against scams that are taking place and to make sure that businesses are operating in the correct manner.
The first week of messaging is based around businesses respecting the lockdown measures and there has been a great response with 98% of businesses complying with business closures.
Latest data from councils shows that trading standards, alongside environmental health and other council officers have visited 38,808 businesses since the lockdown came into force on 16 March and advised on business closures and social distancing. In Haringey, there have only been 10 prohibition notices served.
Other key issues that will be addressed over the coming weeks include excessive pricing and scams, unsafe COVID-19 related products and consumer rights advice when it comes to travel and event cancellations. Stay safe in our parks this Bank Holiday weekend
We are grateful to all those residents who have been following the social distancing rules in our parks during the pandemic and would urge you to continue to keep it up this Bank Holiday weekend.
The weather is expected to be nice once again over the course of the next three days, however the message currently remains that we should be staying at home as much as possible and saving lives.
Please follow the social distancing guidance and stay at least two metres away from other park users.
Please don’t:
- Use any closed facilities, including ball courts, outdoor gyms, play areas and skate parks
- Meet with more than one person from a different property
If you’re walking your dog, please keep them on a lead. Our officers are on patrol daily and those allowing dogs to roam free face a £100 fine.
This is only temporary during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been put in place to ensure people are able to remain a safe distance from each other.
We are also urging cyclists and joggers to take special heed of the social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of everyone using our parks.
Please also remember to wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds once you’re back indoors.
This will help to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and protect our NHS. Together, we can save lives.
Being kind to ourselves and each other
Research shows that people who are kind and compassionate benefit from improved wellbeing and happiness, have improved feelings of confidence and optimism and also see improved emotional wellbeing and a reduction in stress.
Acts of kindness can be especially important at this time, as many of us will feeling some sort of impact and increase in stress on our everyday lives due to the coronavirus pandemic.
For Mental Health Awareness Week, the Mental Health Foundation is asking people to reflect on an act of kindness and share ideas on how you think we could build a kinder society that would support our mental health, using the hashtags #KindnessMatters and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek.
There are so many ways to help others. You could volunteer, check in safely with a neighbour who is isolated or shielding, start an online book club, or call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while.
It is important to be kind to yourself as well. Try to prioritise some 'me' time, so you can relax and reflect on how you’re feeling and how your day or week has been so far, and try to find something small to celebrate each day.
