Staying safe
Residents have done an amazing job in the last few weeks and months, staying home and saving lives. As we move into the next stage, we would urge you to keep up the good work and stick to the social distancing guidance (external link) of staying at least two metres apart.
Advice remains that you should still stay at home as much as you can to help prevent the spread. If you do visit our parks this weekend, please be respectful of everyone around you.
All council-run sports facilities, including our basketball and tennis courts, will remain closed until further notice. We will keep arrangements under review and updates will be posted on our parks pages.
Some tennis courts are independently managed by community sports organisations, and will be open, including Finsbury Park, Albert Road Recreation Ground and Bruce Castle Park, which all require pre-booking online. Please do not turn up without a slot.
Please check online for further information on independently-run courts.

Letters from Lockdown
A series of free online creative 'Letters from Lockdown' workshops are being held for anyone who is care-experienced, and aged between 16 and 25.
We are going through a historic period during the pandemic and it will be talked about in schools and universities for many years to come.
Now - through Coram and the Royal Literacy Fund’s Voices Through Time programme - people are being urged to share their experiences during the pandemic. You will get to meet other young people, express your creativity, develop your writing skills, contribute to an online timeline of the history of care and shape tomorrow's history from today’s stories.
Sessions will be taking place via Zoom 5.30pm to 6.30pm every Tuesday in May and the first two weeks in June. For more info and to sign up, please visit the Coram website (external link).
Support for people with sight loss
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is offering support with social distancing and self-isolation measures to people affected by sight loss.
Social distancing measures can be particularly difficult for blind and partially sighted people who rely on guides and public transport to live independently.
RNIB has improved telephone and online access to its Sight Loss Advice Service - which offers emotional support and practical advice to blind and partially sighted people and their families, and connects them to local support.
The service is providing information on a range of issues including:
- How to access essential items, such as food and medicine
- Navigating safely while adhering to social distancing advice
- Advice on eye health at a time when non-urgent appointments have been cancelled
- Support to reduce loneliness during self-isolation
- Information about benefits and financial support provided by the Government
RNIB’s Sight Loss Advice Service is available on 0303 123 9999 between 8am-8pm on weekdays, and between 9am-1pm on Saturdays. Advice is also available online on the Sight Advice FAQ (external link).
London learning at home
The London Curriculum is a programme which brings together a wide range of free, learning and cultural resources to support teachers and families - whilst ensuring that young Londoners still feel connected to the incredible people, places and culture of their city during lockdown.
The programme focuses on key stages 2 and 3, and uses London literature, culture, innovations and global heritage as part of its ‘Discover, Explore and Connect’ subject content - creating learning experiences that are both exciting and well-structured.
The programme also offers free teaching resources and evening events for teachers. These London-specific offers add to the national list of online education resources published by the Department for Education.
