Widening of pavement pinch-points | Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme extended | Having trouble sleeping?
Update on widening of ‘pavement pinch-points’
New measures to help with social distancing at busier points in the borough have been introduced as part of a package of measures devised by Haringey Council - to make it safer and easier for businesses, their customers and Haringey’s communities to do their essential shopping safely, in line with social distancing guidelines.
The first phase of these works saw temporary pavement widening at 10 sites in the borough with barriers at some locations – a small number of parking bays were also suspended and some bus stops moved slightly.
A second phase of pavement widening has now been rolled out across the following sites.
- 126-138 Muswell Hill Broadway - M&S and Bank
- 112 Muswell Hill Broadway - Greens of Highgate
- 90 Muswell Hill Broadway - Butchers & Bank
- 390 Muswell Hill Road - Waitrose, Post office and Poundland
- 28 Highgate High Street N6 –Tesco express
- 71 Crouch End Hill N8 –M&S
- 35-39 The Broadway N8 –Waitrose

- 105 Turnpike Lane N8 –Post Office
- 646 Lordship Lane N22 – suspension of footway parking only

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended until the end of October. Furloughed workers currently receive 80% their wages, up to a cap of £2,500 per month. There will be no changes to the scheme until end of July.
From August, employers currently using the scheme will be able to bring furloughed employees back part-time. More specific details and information around next steps will be made available at the end of May.

Having trouble sleeping?
It is estimated that around a third of adults have trouble getting to sleep at night. The stress of the coronavirus pandemic, self-isolation, working from home and the current lockdown measures, is a further pressure that can affect this.
Sleep problems are one of the most common psychological reasons for GP appointments. Research has shown that being able to sleep better really helps to reduce stress.
Good Thinking (external link) has advice, information, tips and a range of sleeping apps that can help to support a restful night’s sleep.
