Health and Wellbeing Board
Who are we?
Improving health and wellbeing in the borough is not the sole responsibility of one or two organisations; the responsibility is shared amongst us all.
The Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) takes the lead in promoting a healthier Haringey. The board is a statutory partnership set up in April 2013 in line with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
We are a small, focused decision-making partnership board. Membership includes elected members, the local authority’s adult and children’s services and Director of Public Health, the NHS (including local GPs), Healthwatch and the voluntary sector.
Our vision
Our vision is to reduce health inequalities through working with communities and residents to improve opportunities for adults and children to enjoy a healthy, safe and fulfilling life.
Many factors combine to affect the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. This includes not only use of health care services, but also individual circumstances and the local environment such as where people live, inherited characteristics, income, education, life experiences, behaviours and choices, and relationships with friends and family.
How we will achieve our vision
We have published our Health and Wellbeing Strategy following consultation with Haringey residents, health and social care professionals and the voluntary and community sector, and using the findings in our Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
The strategy has three priorities for improving wellbeing in Haringey:
- Reducing obesity
- Increasing healthy life expectancy
- Improving mental health and wellbeing
How we will monitor the outcomes
We will monitor and review health and wellbeing improvements and outcomes using the Department of Health's outcomes frameworks for the NHS (website - external link), Public Health (website - external link) and Adult Social Care (website - external link).
