Learn to Dance

If you're thinking of joining a dance group and still undecided about which genre to go for, have a look at the NHS Choices Learn to Dance interactive tool. Please note: these dance classes are independent of Haringey Council and Haringey Dance Forum. You should (as with all physical and leisure activities being offered by an organisation) check that they have all insurances, qualifications and DBS necessary in order to run these classes safely.

Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnerships

EMD UK, previously known as EMDP, is the lead National Governing Body (NGB) for exercise, movement and dance. It's a not for profit organisation dedicated to the development of exercise, movement and dance provision throughout the UK. EMD UK’s vision is to have "More people enjoying lifelong good health and wellbeing through exercise, movement and dance". EMD UK has recently been awarded funds through Sport England which will help their aim to get more people exercising through dance than ever before.

You can affiliate to EMD UK as a Teacher of Dance or Club, Group or School. You will receive a number of benefits such as:

  • Reduced insurance payments such as Liability Insurance and PPL Music Licence
  • Access to online forums and promotion of your classes through their online database
  • 15% off your fee when applying for a DBS check

Haringey Dance Forum

Haringey Dance Forum is currently being developed in the borough. The forum is for anyone that is involved in the teaching, instructing and advancement of dance in the community. The forum will provide an environment where those involved in dance can meet to discuss issues relating to dance, exercise and movement, and work collaboratively in Haringey to create and manage a fully functioning forum which can organise and run events for the Haringey community. The forum is currently open to new members!
