Groundwork London helps people and organisations make changes in order to create better neighbourhoods, to build skills and job prospects and to live and work in a greener way. A six year funding agreement is in place with the council which Groundwork use to attract further funding into the borough. To date around £1m of additional funding has been secured.
Programmes cover many interconnected issues including environment, healthy living, regeneration and unemployment and creates projects and services that benefit both people and the environment.
Projects in Haringey are wide ranging and include landscape consultation, design and implementation, fundraising, community development, food growing, volunteering and employment schemes.
Groundwork has a close relationship with the council and has been involved in large-scale improvements in six parks as well as a number of smaller spaces. All projects have involved working closely with the residents around them to ensure changes are community-led.
A typical landscape project on a park or open space will involve a prolonged period of consultation, working with a stakeholder group. Once a design has been agreed Groundwork will work to secure the required funding, typically through charitable trusts, the Big Lottery and landfill funding awards. Once secured, the project will be delivered in partnership with the council.
Recently completed projects include:
- Fairland Park
- Play provision at Ducketts Common, Wood Green Common, Stationers Park and Belmont Recreation Ground
- Community Square at Paignton Park
Ongoing projects include:
- design and fundraising at Stanley Road Open Space
- implementation of sports improvements and outdoor gym at Ducketts Common
- masterplan and fundraising at Hartington Park
- implementation of landscape improvements on Fountain Road
- design and fundraising for building repair and landscaping at Queen’s Wood
Projects are chosen by the council’s Leisure Services team, with input from the Friends Groups and both work closely with Groundwork through the whole process with the sites remaining owned and managed by the council.
