Green Space Volunteering
In addition to the Friends groups in the borough, there are many other voluntary groups and organisations actively working to improve green spaces, not only to enjoy for leisure and recreational purposes, but to use as food growing spaces. If you would like to get involved and volunteer there are many opportunities to do so…
There are many groups looking after community gardens, providing quality space for everyone to enjoy. Groups such as The Gardens’ Residents Association and Bowes Park Community Association are made up of volunteers living locally, looking after and managing community gardens and using the spaces to increase community participation by running many activities within their open spaces.
Living Under One Sun and Back2Earth are voluntary groups, working in and with the community providing opportunities based around food growing initiatives. Both have taken on derelict pieces of land and have transformed them into much more than just a space for growing food, but where people are trained, encouraged and where aims and aspirations are developed.
None of these spaces or initiatives would have started or would be able to continue without the valuable time and skills that volunteers offer.
So if you want to give volunteering a go to improve green space in Haringey, use the links above to get started!
