Holocaust Memorial Day 2023
Each year, communities across the UK and around the world come together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and during more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
This annual commemoration takes place on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.
Holocaust Memorial Day provides all of us with an opportunity to learn about the past, as well as a reminder to stay vigilant to the dangers of hatred and division that still exist around us.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2023 is Ordinary People, highlighting the ordinary people who let genocide happen, the ordinary people who actively perpetrated genocide, and the ordinary people who were persecuted.
This year’s special event took place on 29 January at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Communities in Haringey came together to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust and other genocides. This multi-faith event saw residents, school children, genocide survivors, faith leaders and community representatives come together for readings and reflections on this year’s theme; Ordinary People.
There will be other events happening across the borough, please see the full 2023 listings below.
