Fast fibre broadband programme for social housing properties in Haringey
Over 21,000 of Haringey’s social housing properties are set to benefit from full fibre broadband, as part of a multi-million pound investment in the borough’s digital infrastructure.
Full fibre uses fibre-optic cables, not telephone wires, meaning you’ll benefit from ultrafast and ultra-reliable Internet speeds.
Haringey Council is working with providers Community Fibre, 4Fibre and Hyperoptic to enable them to bring their full fibre broadband into the borough. Over the next 2-3 years, this programme will see all council housing being provided with fast fibre broadband, as well as the opportunity to connect to TV and telephone packages that providers offer.
You will also see wider benefits of the programme including:
- Free high-speed Internet connections to community buildings and spaces including libraries, community halls and youth clubs
- Free Wi-Fi in communal areas of sheltered housing and council-owned community buildings
- Low Internet subscription charges for people on low incomes
- Choice of broadband suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and a range of speeds for residents
- Social value benefits including jobs, apprentices, work experience and digital inclusion training
What you need to do
- You don't need to do anything for now
Surveys and installations initially started from autumn 2022 and all works carried out will be external and either within communal areas or on the outside of the building. Residents will not be required to give access into their homes to the engineers and all operatives will be required to carry photo identification from their respective company, as well as Hi-Viz jackets which will carry the contractor’s name on the back.
Hours of work will be approximately between 8.30am to 5.30pm (weekdays only).
Letters from providers
The providers (Community Fibre, 4Fibre and Hyperoptic) will be sending letters to residents with further details on when installations will take place in your area.
See below a couple of templates of the letters you will receive:
