Annual Carbon Report

Since 2012, we have produced a carbon report each year which provides a transparent, year-on-year account of progress made to reduce carbon emissions from our operations and Haringey as a whole.

The 12th report provides progress towards the Haringey Climate Change Action Plan (HCCAP) and reports against the Haringey 40:20 emission target.

12th Annual Carbon Report

This report underlines the projects, key achievements and shows how we continuously work with our community, doing things together in the spirit of the Haringey Deal, co-producing carbon reduction projects with programmes like the Haringey Community Carbon Fund.

The report shows how we are working together, co-creating, and co-delivering projects, for a green, inclusive, resilient, and prosperous net-zero borough.

We are continuously working together across all our service areas and with the local community, organisations, residents, and businesses to holistically combat climate change.

Summary of the 40:20 Target

We have met and exceeded the target of 40% carbon reduction by 2020 at a faster rate than the national average.

We have reduced our emissions by 43.1% since 2005. We saw a decrease of 7.3% in carbon emissions between 2019 and 2020, which is in line with the trend in neighbouring boroughs and Greater London.

These figures are based on the 2020 emissions data published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in 2022.

Summary of the Borough's 2041 Net Zero Carbon Target

We have reduced our borough emissions by a total of 18% between 2015 and 2020. In the latest year measured for this dataset, emissions were reduced by 6.2% between 2019 and 2020.

Haringey's emissions per capita of 2.26 remain well below the London average of 3.15 and average of our neighbouring boroughs of 2.6.

These figures are based on the 2020 London Energy and Greenhouse Gas Inventory (LEGGI) emissions data published by the Greater London Authority in 2022.

Summary of the Council's 2027 Net Zero Carbon Target

Haringey Council has continued to successfully decrease its corporate carbon footprint. We reduced our corporate emissions by 17% between 2020/21 and 2021/22. This brings the total reduction to 69% from our 2014/15 baseline.

These figures are based on measured energy consumption across all council corporate and operational buildings.
