Mental health and wellbeing support during COVID-19
Most of us will feel some sort of impact on our mental health and wellbeing as the coronavirus outbreak continues and lockdown is extended. This is completely understandable, and we want to reassure people in our community that you are not alone.
If you’re feeling restless, stressed, anxious or unable to sleep there are services available to support you, according to your needs, on a local, regional and national level.
Mencap (external link) is also able to provide accessible support and resources for the people in our community who have a learning disability.
If you’re worried about paying your bills or if you don’t have enough food to eat, get in touch with our Connected Communities team, who can offer support and advice to help you.
Reporting anti-social behaviour
We are determined to stop the spread of coronavirus in Haringey and the majority of residents have adhered to the social distancing guidelines that have been implemented by the government.
However, there are still a minority of individuals who are not playing by the rules and are causing anti-social behaviour in certain parts of the borough.
It is crucial that you let the authorities know if there are any social distancing problems or major noise issues that are causing a disturbance.
The police have created an online social distancing form that residents can access if they want to report any breaches of the coronavirus measures:
Pavements to be widened to aid social distancing
New measures to help with social distancing at busier points in the borough are being introduced as part of a package of measures devised by Haringey Council.
We have been speaking to businesses about challenges they have been facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as 'pavement pinch-points' outside shops that have outdoor queues in high footfall areas and near bus stops. As a result, pavements will be temporarily widened with barriers at some locations, a small number of parking bays will be suspended and some bus stops will be moved slightly.
The intention is to make it safer and easier for businesses, their customers and Haringey’s communities to do their essential shopping safely.
The first phase of these works has begun at 10 sites, with a second phase to follow. We will closely monitor the measures at all sites to ensure they are helping residents.
Stay In, Make Friends, Enjoy the Arts
Jacksons Lane, one of Haringey’s flagship arts venues, is continuing to bring you more entertainment that you and your family can enjoy in your home whilst isolating and staying safe.
They’ve launched Befriending, a new initiative to match volunteers with residents of Haringey’s housing schemes. The volunteers, many of whom are artistic performers, make phone calls to residents to offer support, conversation and even singing! If you’d like to become a volunteer Befriender, please email jessica@jacksonslane.org.uk
Jacksons Lane’s regular Scratch Night (a medley of work-in-progress performances), Tilted Circus Scratch, has gone digital (external link). Find the latest from seven performers who have sent in their latest works-in-progress, done from their own homes.
If you want to learn, find anything from yoga to children’s arts on their Classes and Courses page (external link), with tutors finding inventive ways to present their material online. Want to help your kids develop their artistry? Doodle Arts have created an entire free Resource Pack for teaching art at home (PDF - external link).
